Babe, They Are AI is a multimedia installation by artist Theresa Hajek that critically examines the relationship between artificial intelligence and democracy. The work explores how humans engage with AI systems and how these technologies increasingly shape perceptions, behaviours, and social realities.

Focusing on social media platforms, AI influencers, and digitally generated content, the installation highlights the growing presence of artificial intelligence in everyday life. As regulations surrounding AI-generated media remain limited and its future development uncertain, the work raises urgent questions about authenticity, trust, and the boundaries between reality and simulation.

Through an immersive environment, Babe, They Are AI invites viewers to reflect on their ability to distinguish between what is real and what is created by an artificial intelligence. It examines how the content we consume not only informs our understanding of the world but also actively influences opinions, values, and democratic processes. Ultimately, the installation asks a fundamental question: With whom and with what kind of technology do we want to coexist in the future?
